Tyler is going to join Jiang Lab as a PhD student in Fall 2026. Tyler started in Jiang Lab in Fall 2025 as a master’s student in Computational Life Sciences, working on mitochondria mutation spectrum in yeast. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 2015 with a degree in Genetics and Biotechnology his curiosity took him into unique fields including the food industry, wind industry, emergency medicine, and commercial aquaculture. During his time in undergrad he worked on the molecular end of noise induced and congenital hearing loss in drosophila. In the Jiang lab he will be assisting with bioinformatics projects investigating mitochondrial DNA in yeast strains. In addition to research Tyler loves rock climbing, crafting, airplanes, and the Muppets.
